Weekend Recap: Playoffs

Hi everyone!  I’m just now sitting down from the conclusion of a pretty mixed weekend in our home.  It was just as I liked it.  Father Winter was kind enough to take the kids on a day trip to visit family giving me the first day sans children since the birth of our youngest daughter almost five months ago.  I honestly was so excited and had all of these terrific plans, and then ended up doing nothing except resting on Saturday.

I would have been super disappointed in myself for this, but dang it, when was the last time I allowed myself the luxury of just lounging without running around.  It has been super busy the last few weeks and a bit of me time was just what I needed.  I don’t know why we moms (and dads, too) put so much pressure on ourselves to be there for everyone without taking time to recharge.  It’s so important to have the downtime.  I have learned that if we aren’t able to function, we are no good to anyone else.  And I needn’t have felt bad for long.  It wasn’t too long before it was time to make dinner.  I racked my brain for a while before settling on these Jerk Shrimp Kababs with Brown Rice for the family. Let me know if you would like the recipe.  I’ll be glad to share.  I’m currently fasting from sweets, so the pineapples that beautifully accompany this dish are omitted this time. Don’t worry!  They’ll be there next time!

Oh and the picture does it no justice at all (time to start using my Nikon again).  They were REALLY yummy and really easy to do.

After dinner was complete, the family settled in to watch the football playoffs.  I definitely wasn’t surprised to see the Philadelphia Eagles take it from the Falcons though I am more than sure that some of my colleagues were.  Nor was I surprised to see the Patriots advance.  I am NOT a Patriots fan at all, but I knew they would be in the lineup.  I was hoping for a Saints advance for New Orleans, but saw Minnesota pull it off and smiled because tomorrow is going to be a fun time in my office for at least one of my work buddies.  The surprise of the evening for me was the Jacksonville Jaguars.  I’m not ashamed to admit it at all.  I was not expecting the Jaguars to upset the Steelers.  Congratulations to them on a hard fought win!  So now they play New England on Sunday.

I’m already calling it.  New England has this one.  But, who am I predicting between Minnesota and Philly?  I have to say I’m hoping for a Minnesota victory, but I think the Eagles are going to pull it off.  If I’m right, Superbowl 53 victors will once again be New England, but I’ll be cheering as loud as I can for their opposition.  (Can you tell I’m not a Patriots fan?)

Fast forward to today.  Today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day.  This is his birthday and the day we honor his memory and legacy.  It’s amazing to think about how much more relevant his work seems to be in this time than ever before.  It seems like discrimination and disdain is everywhere.  It concerns me.  I think of this world and how much hate seems to lie in it.  Then I am reminded that the God I serve is able to fix even this.  This world will continue to be what it is, but I know that I have something and someone greater to look forward to.  As did Dr. King.

Finally, the family is in transition mode.  Our daughters, Honeybee and A., are each getting new room makeovers.  I can’t wait to show them to you!  Honeybee is currently in our guest bedroom and A. is in Honeybee’s former room.  The toddler bed in Honeybee’s room is capable of converting itself back into the beautiful wooden crib that once held her as an infant.  We are doing so and are giving Honeybee a butterfly room like she has desired for quite some time.  I can’t wait to share it with you!

So, that’s it in a nutshell! Hope you have an amazing week.  I’ll check in with you later!

-Winter
