What a day. I am currently resting on the couch with two beautiful embryos resting well within me. Today was our Frozen Embryo Transfer and it was a wonderful success. This was our first frozen transfer, but it was vaguely reminiscent of our last IVF w/ICSI transfer.
Rocking my transfer booties
This transfer was scheduled for 3:30PM with a required office show time of 3:00PM. Normally this would have been a piece of cake, but this week just happens to be Thanksgiving week. Traffic was already silly at 8AM. I paid close attention to my phone’s traffic report and GPS and realized that it wouldn’t be a bad idea if I left about twenty minutes before I’d originally planned on leaving. It was a good thing I did. The GPS said I would arrive at 2:33PM. With traffic, I got to the campus right at 3:00PM.
Like last transfer, I was required to have a full bladder. I discovered then that my happy balance is 16 ounces of water. Unfortunately for me, I decided to push the envelope just a bit at 18 ounces. Oh. My. Goodness.
I waited until my name was called, was presented my transfer booties, and made my way into the transfer room where I undressed from the waist down. This room was very sparse. It only held the transfer bed and a screen. The embryologist entered. My DOB and SSN were verified again and confirmed to the ID bracelet I wore and we were good to go. The number to be transferred was also confirmed.
The doctor and nurse were actually quite pleased by my full bladder and kept thanking me over and over again because they could see everything. I appreciated that…but still…Oh. My. Goodness.
I was placed in the traditional leg up position and watched on the screen as, after the embryologist came in with my babies, they were inserted within my womb. I never get tired of that. It’s like a flash of light and the babies are there.
Like last transfer, I stopped for my McDonald’s fries on the way home. Unlike the last transfer, I had to wait until I got home to see pictures of my babies as the pictures are now sent to the patient portal instead of being printed and given to the moms.
I was a bit sad about that as I love having that tangible, but I can always print it later.
And that was that. We are now in our waiting game with our Beta scheduled for 3 Dec. Time to start the Two Week Wait!
