Four years. Four years ago today, I was awakened to twinges in my belly that didn’t feel like the same contractions that had been bothering me for the past few days. Several hours later, I was holding a beautiful baby girl with eyes that searched the world as if she’d seen it all before. My husband and I were immediately grateful.

A Letter For My Sunshine

I promise I have never met a more feisty, fiercely independent, and intelligent a four-year-old as I have found in you. You are amazing. You are truly destined for something great, and I am so thankful that I get to help you become that person. Thank you for being a great big sister to your brother and sister, and thank you for being a great little sister to your older brother and sister. Being the middle child has its own challenges and you handle them with grace. It’s no surprise that you are emulating your middle name.

Being your mother has been one of my greatest joys. You keep me in stitches, even when I would rather not laugh at some of your antics. You ask questions that make such sense even in your attempts to negotiate discipline. I see the elders’ light in your eyes. I see so much of my grandmothers and great-grandmothers in you. You have no idea the strength of the women whose blood courses through your veins. You will though. I promise to continue teaching you about them as much as I can for as long as I can.
I love you and I pray that you are more than blessed forever and always. I pray that you grow up healthy-mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I pray that you are loved with Agape love and that you are one day blessed to know a love that bonds in friendship and so much more. I pray you achieve whatever dreams and aspirations the Father places on your heart. You will go far, my dear. I love you.
Have a very happy 4th birthday! I Love you!
-Mommy
