Creating the Vision (Board): The Year of Grace

A couple of weekends ago, my family and I held a Vision Board event.  I have always liked the idea of vision boards without the world’s recent doctoring of manifesting and visualization–digital or physical.  I preferred to use scripture to Habakkuk 2:2-3:  And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”  3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie:  though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

I wanted to pray about what God wanted for and from me in 2024, what I wanted for myself, and I wanted my littles to do the same. I asked the family to choose goals for this year. Something that resonated with them and would help to keep them motivated throughout 2024.

What do you want to accomplish in 2024?”

I think the family came up with some pretty wonderful ideas.

Children lie down or kneel on carpet while writing and coloring on poster board

Little boy with braids holds a poster board with crayon markings and a picture of a child playing soccer on it.

Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.

After sharing their thoughts and hopes for the incoming year, I placed each board in its owner’s room. I placed it somewhere prominent where they would see if every day and be reminded of what they are trying to accomplish.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the accomplish their goals for the new year.

Your Turn: Hosting Your Own Vision Board Sync

If you are interested in planning you own Vision Board Sync, I recommend a few things:

  • Gather your content sources: Magazines, Vision Board Books, Newspapers. I ordered the Vision Board Clip Art Book for Black Men, Black Women, and Black Girls for a few pieces that matched their own image. While most of these images were really great, in hindsight I would have just ordered without the emphasis on color. These particular books didn’t have a huge emphasis on faith and I really had a difficult time finding pictures that represented what I was hoping to convey in 2024. However, there are plenty of options on Amazon that can assist in your search.
  • Gather your supplies: You don’t have to break the bank. I went to our local Dollar Tree and purchased glue sticks, tape, pens, colored pencils, and poster boards for roughly $20. Our store even had a 2/$1 sale on poster board. With a family of 8, that worked perfectly for my budget.
  • Give a rough instruction guide: I shared Habakkuk 2:2-4, discussed the definition of “vision” and “goal”, and basically told the family to choose goals that they desired to achieve individually and collectively as a family for 2024.
  • Finally, just have fun: Make this your own. Snacks, music, family, friends, theme, no theme. There is no right or wrong in this. Do what works best for you and your group as you plan great things in the upcoming year.

Thanks so much!
